Dear Parents,

Please stress the importance of your child taking their time and giving their best effort on every assignment. It is imperative that students ask questions and let me know when they do not understand a concept so I am able to meet with them in small group and give them further explanation. It is also important that they use their time wisely during class to complete any unfinished work, I am finding that students are choosing to do other things during their spare time rather than work on their graded assignments and it is causing their work to pile up. Thank you so much for your continued support and as always email me with any questions or concerns you may have. Have a great weekend, only three days next week! YAHOO J

Oh The Places We Will Go In Our Learning…

In reading, we are continuing to focus on the literary standards by reading George Washington’s Socks.  The students will be working on determining the theme of the story.  We will also describe the characters, setting, and events in the story.  In guided reading we are learning all about text structures.  Last week we learned about the chronological text structure.  This week we will focus on the compare and contrast text feature.  We will also review all text structures.

In language arts, Mrs. Wall is teaching the students about figurative language.  The students have learned about idioms, similes, metaphors, personification, and onomatopoeia.  This week we will be learning about hyperbole.

In writing, we will be creating VIP trading cards to learn more about the important figures of the American Revolution.   Each student will create a card for the following people:  King George III, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, Patrick Henry, and John Adams.

In math, we will learn how to add and subtract mixed numbers.

In social studies, we have been moving through the Revolutionary War! This week we finished learning about the causes of the American Revolution.  Next week we will go through the first battles, Lexington and Concord and Battle of Bunker Hill. We have even started discussing important people in the revolution such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere, Patrick Henry, etc. Next week we will continue with the battles and build on the important people.  Students are welcome to take home their books, Social Studies folders, etc. as long as they BRING THEM BACK the next day as we use these resources daily.
